Screen Graphics Issue

Post by Structd »

I have just recently purchased and installed MSM Professional Edition, and must say it is an amazing package!

The issues I am having may simply be due to my unfamiliarity with the software at this moment, nonetheless, here are the issues I am facing currently:

1) When probing, I am receiving this error:

MSM Probing ProbeFunc

User Escape key or Probing Func runtime error: #438, Object doesn't support this property or method

One thing I must add though is that I am trying to probe with a tool (end mill) to an isolated workpiece (while I wait for my Touch Probe to arrive, therefore my probing circuit is Normally Open. I don't believe this would be a problem, however with being unfamiliar with the software, I may not fully understand the internal functions/expectations of MSM yet.

2) The images contained in the link below show some graphical issues I am experiencing. To summarize them, as they occur on all screens; when ever I click on a button, the button display changes to something illegible and only corrects itself when I click on another button or switch screens and return. Some buttons stay illegible as I click on others if on the same screen, and only change back to normal when swapping back and forth to different screens.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I am away for the holiday weekend so I can't go look this up in the code until I get back...
in the mean time, some thoughts:
1) this can happen from a broken install. It can't hurt to re-run the MSM installer to make sure all the bit and pieces are installed.

2) Please give me a bit more info:
a) what version of MSM?
b) what version of windows?

3) the error message usually means hat the user interrupted a probing script via the esc key or an estop.
Was that the case here?

When the tool is not touching anything, is the probe LED on the MSM screens off?
if you touch a wore from the tool to the machine frame, does the Probe LED go on?

If the LED is reversed due to ports & pin configuration (on when no probe input) then mach will think the probe is already triggered when a probe operation is started and then mach will abort the probe (G31) move due to this.

This looks like a well known mach bug - please see item #2 in the known mach bugs list in the MSM release notes.

Though this is usually not a common event (like on every button press). I'd also check to make sure that the graphics drivers for my PC are up to date.

Dave,

I tried re-installing MSM as you indicated to try to no avail.

The error code still comes up. I did have it work a couple times but only for the Z (or surface) probing function however even when it worked the few times for 'Z' only, all of the other probing functions gave the error. It seems to be hit and miss.

In response to 2) my software info is as follows:
a) MSM v2.3.9
b) Windows 10 Pro, Version 1607, OS Build 14393.1198

In response to 3) no, I had never pressed the Esc key during any of the operations or while the software (MSM) was operational.

Regarding the method of probing I am using; when the tool is not touching anything the probe LED on MSM is 'off'. When I take the lead off the isolated workpiece and touch it to any part of the machine the probe LED in MSM turns 'on'.

With regards to the 'visual' issues I am facing with MSM, this appears to only be an issue with MSM. I had not had this issue with Mach 3 prior to the installation of MSM. Upon closer inspection, I can see that the image that appears to cover up each button I press is a copy of part of the current screen; as if it is transposing a small section of the active screen over top of the button I press. I have double checked my graphics drivers and they are up-to-date.

Please enjoy the remainder of your holidays and we can discuss further when you are back.

All the best!

Hum, I'm wondering if you're having this trouble with all probing operations...
Have you tried working thru the "probing getting started" steps in section 8.11 of the user manual?
If not please try those steps and let me know how far things go w.o errors happening.

Dave,

I did try working through the instructions in the User Manual already before your reply; still no luck.

I did however manage to get it working through two actions:

1) I have two identical laptops; one for personal use and one for the CNC. Both are identical except for the fact that my personal one is loaded with Windows 7 and the one for the CNC has Windows 10 on it (an accidental update that my daughter inadvertently accepted earlier this year). Switching over to my personal laptop with a demo version of MSM seemed to have resolved the 'Screen Issues' I was encountering. I will transfer the license over to this laptop this weekend.

2) With regards to the 'MSM Probing ProbeFunc' error: #438' that I was experiencing, this error still existed when switching over to my personal laptop (as per item (1) above). I decided to uninstall the version of Mach 3 currently on my laptop and install the demo version of Mach 3.43.066 instead; this appears to have resolved the error fully. Since finding this corrective action I have officially upgraded to the full version of Mach 3.43.066 with a new license on my personal laptop.

Thank you for your time and effort in assisting me in trying to resolve these matters. I will rebuild my CNC laptop with Windows 7 and update you on my progress once it is complete.
