ESC Key

Post by paris_tj »

I have always had the ESC button trigger a reset in mach by default, but I upgraded last week to the newest stable release and MachStdMill and it does not reset now. The ESC was easy to hit if I had a OH CRAP moment. How can I get it back?

Re: ESC Key

Hi,
I am not sure if you
1) upgraded mach to 3.43.66 and also installed MSM for the first time, or
2) were already running mach + MSM and decided to upgrade mach to 3.43.66 and MSM to 2.0.7 (the latest MSM production release).

However, in either case the action of the ESC key should not have changed for any reason I can think of.
The hot keys used by MSM are given in section 2.2.4 for the MSM user manual (these are assigned in the MSM screen set file) - and there are two keys that are hard assigned by Mach: Esc and Tab.
ESC always aborts the current operation and tab displays the fly out page.
There is no facility that I know of to change these two keys - so I'm at a loss to explain why ESC would not work.
as far as I know, the ESc and TAB keys should be the same for any screen set (as they are controlled only by Mach).

If I had this symptom, I'd try reinstalling mach on top of itself (you can install Mach and MSM independently) - however, I have to admit that is just a general "when mach screw up badly, wipe and reset it's brain" or "big hammer" approach to the problem.
