I see in your video lathe operation doing roughing cut. Is it possible to make a finishing cut as well, and if,- how?

The bishop example in the mill-turn video was Gcode that looks to me to have been produced by a CAM program (lots of short lines to emulate curves).
I used it as I wanted to show that MIll-turn will just run gcode for a lathe without needing to modify the gcode.
That code does what looks like roughing (by taking Z axis cuts that hog out material outside of the bishop shape).
Then it does "finishing" cuts by following the bishop shape outline and cutting a bit deeper each time.
Neither of the sequences is really "finishing" or "roughing" from the gcode viewpoint, it's just a bunch of circular arc and line segment moves.

When using CAM programs, the ability to "do" Rough and finish cuts is really a matter of what operations the CAM program supports.
If a CAM program has both rouging and finishing cut operations, that is great - you use them and the CNC control just does what it is told.
But the control has no concept of any particular move as belonging to a rough or finish cut.

If you are creating gcode by hand, then you use the gcode commands that the control implements.
For mach, the lathe mode gcode commands are in the mach manuals.
I don't remember if Mach has a built in rough and finish cycle like some controls do (I'm not near the Mach manuals as I write this).

Hi,
The proxy activation utility is just a little windows program, so when it installs, there is a new item created in the Windows start menus. You can use the start menu to start the proxy activation utility.

Attached is a pic of the start menu entry on a win XP machine -

I have come a little further, but I am stokk at the "(Re)Activate" screen. After clicking the button I get opp the next screen telling me:
Serwer Activation Feiled
Return value 2
WINSOCK CANNOT RESOLV HOST

What to do now?

That error is saying that the PC can not contact the license server.
The most usual causes of that are:
1) there is a problem with the physical connectivity between the PC and the outside world.
Obvious things to check: Is a ethernet cable plugged in? if Wireless, is there a connection between the PC and the Access point?
Can you get to any other site from that PC? I.e. can you get to web sites etc from a browser?

2) A firewall or antivirus program may be blocking Mach from making a network connection (MSM runs inside mach so it will be the mach3.exe task that is being blocked). This can create the same result as if an ethernet cable was unplugged.
Turn off all antivirus and fiewall programs until after the activation is finished.

3) Pardon me for asking but I should check.... there are TWO different PCs involved in a proxy activation. PC1 is the CNC control PC (tghe PC with mach on it). PC 2 is the "proxy PC" that is used to talk to the internet and the MSM license server.
The proxy process starts at PC 1 (the cnc control), it puts data and the utility program on a USB stick; the usb stick is taken to PC 2; at PC 2 the utility is installed and then run.

I have had users get confused and try to run the Proxy utility from PC 1 (the CNC control pc). That does not work because PC 1 has no internet connection. The utility is saying it can not find an internet connection to use - so I have to ask:
Are you running the utility from PC 2 (the proxy PC)?

I am almost there. Yes I to was confused but now I am doing the right things. (I hope). My PC1 is the new PC whith all the programs running, but it is a trial version (MSLathe pro. is installed on PC1)
My PC2 have MSM pro. installed and running OK. PC2 have connection to the internett ("the outside world").
I now start vithe PC1 (phace1) so PC2 (phace2) and last PC1 (phace3)

My woork no stops at screen Fig 188 page 289 rev 1.72 (I think). The screen poops up but there is no numbers or letter in the "Installation ID" box.
I go on regarles and hit the botum (RE)Ativate and get up the next box as shown in fig 189 less the Installation ID. If I press "Check installation status" I get the message: "Result Code: 5005. Invalide Parameters".
If I now do installation phase 3 the results is "Activation via Proxy failed".
What now?

(I am nearly 80 years old so ber with me)

We may be looking at slightly different version of the MSM user manual, so I am going to dialog titles (the text in the top title bar of a dialog) which will be the same, even if other changes moved the page numbers a little.

OK, I think this is the step where you are experiencing a problem.

I think you are talking about the dialog box with the title "MachStdMill Proxy Activation Utility v1.1" - correct?
If this dialog is blank and there is no LicenseID or InstallationID shown, it tells me that we need to back up one step to solve the problem.
The dialog is probably blank because you did not load the proxy utility with the data from the USB/Thumb drive (the ProxyActivation request file).

The step from phase two that you have done are:
1) installed the Proxy utility - we know that is good because you can start the utility.
2) started the proxy activation utility - we know that step is working.
3) when the Proxuy activation utility starts, the first thing utility does is ask you to point it to the ProxyActivationRequest file.
You will get a dialog box titled "Browse to ProxyACtivation file:".
That dialog is asking you to tell the utility where to find the file with the information it needs to use to activate MSM.

That information is on the USB/Thumb drive (Same place that MSM put the proxy activation utility). You need to use the dialog to browse to the needed file on the thumb drive and then you need to select the "ProxyActivationRequest" file in that dialog and then click the open button in the dialog.
This is covered in the 1 or 2 pages in the user manual just before the dialog you said was on page "Fig 188 page 289".

Once you complete this step, the next step will not have a empty dialog.

Please do not do this as it will not help. When the dialog is empty the utility does not have the information is needs to use, so asking it to go ahead and try when the information is missing, will always result in the activation failing.

If you go back and make sure you do not skip the step that opens the ProxyActivation Request file in the utility and things should be ok.

I tried to follow your steps, but no succes. Everything is OK until Fig. 188: Proxy Utility Activation. This box shows License ID and Password but not INSTALLATION ID, as said before.
