Internal pocket probing issue

Post by grsabourin »

Hi,

First issue
I'm trying to probe the inside of a hole in aluminium plate. This hole has 30 mm diameter. I have tried with two probing options 1) Hole probing 2) square pocket probing. With both options, the results is the same. This machine is setup in imperial units but the program I use is in metric. All the probing parameter in the following images refer to metric measurements.

This is what happen

1) probe the top of the part (z) --> good
2) move 5 mm minus X direction
3) go down in Z and move plus X to find first hole edge --> good.
4) move in minus X to find the other edge
it moves mostly to the center of the hole (15mm) and stop say that not able to find hole edge

I have tried multiple values for X Hint but it seems changing nothing. (30 mm, 60mm, 200mm )

This is screenshot of my probing screen

Second issue
Sometime i have also some error like : Rect Pocket X axis chord not found. It is like the probe do not detect the edge when touching. I increase second probing step speed and it had helped. Most of the time I do it again an it works

This is the two issues I have currently for probing. The first one is more critical because I'm stocked without any solution.

Thank you

Hi,

Take a look at your probing parameters. Here's my best guess as to what happens: You said the hole is 30mm diameter, then you moved 5 mm and jogged down into the hole. So at this point you are at most 5mm from the edge of the hole, and the other edge is at least 25mm away from the probe tip. Then you asked the software to go find the other side of the hole - but from the screen shot you have the maxXY distance in the probing parameters set to 10mmm. It can't move 25mm to the other side with a 10mm maxXY limitation specified. The result is that it stops and says it didn't find the edge it was looking for.

Thank you for your reply. I will try to increase the MaxXY value. If I understand correctly, the MaxXY needs to be larger than the hint value given to the software
