jogging

Post by emes »

Hi
I have an issue which I cannot solve.
When jogging in the z axis, if I select the shift up while in step mode the spindle takes off and rapids into the limit switch, is this a known issue and is there a fix.
I am using Mach version .066 and the latest MSM version. I have seen this issue before in a standard Mach3 install where my machine would rapid in the x+ when doing initial setting of MC.
Any help is welcome
Regards

Hi,
Is this an issue only with the Z+ direction for jog? I.e. is the Z+ shifted jog speed different than the Z- shifted jog speed?

The jog keys are handled directly by mach so if the two jog speed are different I would suspect a mach glitch. I'd reinstall Mach and then MSM. you can just reinstall on top of the current installation.

If the speeds are the same, but just faster than you want with the shift key, you can reduce the % number in the DRO next to the "cont" jogging key in the jog panel. That sets the % of rapid speed that is used when the Shift=jogging.

You can also limit the speed of rapids for the entire machine via the fly out panel - you can limit the Rpd% speed there.

Hi Dave
I was not explaining myself well.
What I was trying to say is, when I am jogging using the step button it works as it should it moves the quill by whatever increment I select, but if I use the shift + up key while still having the step key on to move at a rapid speed it takes off even if I remove fingers of the keys it only stops when it reaches the limit switch.
any suggestions welcome

Hi Dave
I have been working my through all your posts and found a post which is about my problem. It was listed as axis runnaway which explains my issue regards which key sequence causes the runnaway problem. That post said it was a firmware bug for the particular BOB no fix was suggested in the post waiting for firmware upgrade, I am using a ESS and a C32 BOB from CNC4PC it has worked faultlessly except for this problem. Any help appreciated.
I am very pleased with your product I am getting it to do most things as I work through setting it up. I have MTM and Probing working together. TCP TP setup and working, I have mobile TP working.

Hi,
I'm not sure what you re seeing - so I'll do some guessing to see if any of this rings a bell for you...

1) keyboard input for joging is handled directly my mach, so I'd expect any symptom should be the same whether you are running MSM or not.

2) Assuming that you are doing step jogging, what jog mode is being used? V, S/V, S, or M?

From memory. I think S should give you one unit of distance as set in the DRO to the right of the STEP button.
However, if you hold down the arrow key. the PC will cause the key to repeat - and that will buffer up multiple job increments in the PC keyboard buffer. Coupled with a large step increment, this could result in a lot of movement after the job key is let up. Could this be what you are seeing?

3) for keyboard jogging my usual jog habits are to use cont jogging - that gets me close to where I want to be, then If I'm using the keyboard, I switch to Step and S and only hit the key once per movement. (sort of a "Dr it hurts when I do this... so don't do it" approach ;-) )

4) the jogging stuff works in a sim installation (at least with the PP), so that is a safe way to experiment to see how much movement occurs after a jog key is let up using the different combination of jog modes.

Hi again
Holidays are now over till next year.
I had never used the V,S/V,S,M setting did not know what they did so I never thought about them. I did change from V to S and my problem is not there any more, I do not know what this change has done but it is not a problem any more. I understand this a Mach controlled thing and it was not a big concern so I thank you for your help.
